Two human rights lawyers in China had to pay for offering to fight for Tibetan in the Chinese court of law. These Tibetans were charged in recent anti-China protests in Tibet. This is with reference to the latest strict measures to maintain law and order in coming days of Olympics in August 2008.
Names of these two human rights activist lawyers are Mr.Teng Biao and Jiang Tianyong
. These both activists are known for fighting human rights abuse cases. According to Mr. Teng last week the licenses of all the lawyers working in his firm were renewed except his own.
Mr. Teng said : “Obviously, it is because of the Tibetan letter that I signed and also other sensitive cases I handled,”.
As always in an iron curtain dictatorial political environment Judicial authorities could not be contacted for comment on Tuesday.
The Chinese ruling Communist Party is always often intolerant of lawyers who disagree with their ideology.
In April, 18 lawyers signed a public letter volunteering free legal services to Tibetans arrested during an official crackdown against protests in western China. As a mockery of humanity and democracy the arrested Tibetans were represented by the Chinese government in the Chinese court of law and dozens among them were given sentences of imprisonment from months to years.
