This should be a busy tourist season in China. Durin this time of the year one finds Tianaman square full of foreign tourists mainly Western. Beijing’s Kerry Center hotel has generally 100% occupancy during these months but at present it is somewhere around 60% according to its duty manager. He fails to find the reasons for lack of tourists in the country. Of course in a non democratic political environment he can not; because they are not taught to think divergent of reasons mostly implemented by the Government in the name of tightened security measures.

New visa restrictions were implemented in May this year. According to Chinese foreign ministry the visa restrictions are temporary. According to business surveys arround 500,000 foreingers are expected to visit Beijing this Olympic season. Which means revenue of $4.5. billion. Most of the five star hotels are booked in advance for coming Olympics.

What ever the security concerns are is it possible to organize Olympics successfully with such a lack of foreign visitors in China ?

Man with all these restrictions and implications I wouldn’t be surprised if the stands were empty.

See, I guess you are predicting things in wrong way Taylor. :) And I hope it is that way round. For if that is the thing, many people are gonna suffer huge losses. I guess Chinese government will face protests from tycoons who have invested merrily for the 2008 Olympics.

If it is Chinese govt. its nothing like one can protest against the establishment may it be a common Chinese or a tycoon from any where in the world.

Well with all the things they are making people do to just watch the games, I wouldn’t be surprised. I wonder how they will deal with the protests. I especially would like to see how intense they will be and where they will be conducted. It will be interesting come Olympic Day. :P
